September 2021 Goals
Starting today, I’m keeping a developer journal on this site. I thought the best way to begin would be to share my September 2021 goals with you. Throughout the month, I’ll let you know how things are progressing.
Release the Director’s Cut Books
We’re remastering all core books. The System-Neutral line, DoubleZero line, and Hippogryph line are being re-edited, reformatted, and revised. This project has taken up most of my year.
The first wave is nearly complete. The first Director’s Cut editions will be Building Characters, Building Worlds, and Building Adventures. If you own the digital editions of the current versions, you will be able to download the new version from your library on DriveThruRPG. The print-on-demand versions will be A5 (bullet journal sized) hardcovers.
By the end of this week, I’ll submit the files to the printer. It will take about a week for them to approve the files. Another 10-15 working days to print the proofs. Then probably a week before I receive them in the mail. If everything looks good, then the print-on-demand version will go live along with the new digital files.
As soon as the first wave is submitted, I’ll oversee the editing of the second wave. After submission, I’ll finish the third wave, and so on.
The goal is to have at least the first three waves in process at the printer by the end of the month.
Launch The Secret Newsletter
Before the end of the month, I want to have the first edition of The Secret Newsletter out. There will be at least one Developer’s Journal entry about this before the end of the month. There’s an important reason it’s has that name, and it’s obliquely related to the next item.
Drop Our First Merch
Another thing I’ll be writing about this month is not keeping all of my eggs in one basket. I need to diversify my income a bit. So during this month, I’ll be working with some strategic partners to do our first merch drop. At the moment, it’s just going to be some t-shirts. In the coming months, we’ll add other items. Hopefully, the merch will be on sale by the end of the month; at the very least, we’ll finalize designs and contracts.
Keep a Developer Journal
My goal is to be more transparent about what’s happening behind the scenes. I’m not saying I’ll be posting a new entry every day, but I’m aiming for at least three times per week. That will change based on how it impacts my other work. Getting the books out is the top priority. Give me some time to find the right balance.
I also want to use the Developer Journal to answer your questions. If you want to know specific things or learn how the sausage gets made, drop me a line. Nothing is off-limits, although I reserve the right to avoid topics that are proprietary to the business or unreasonably personal.
