An important caveat, news on upcoming releases, RPGaDay, and more on Domnio. Here’s the Dancing Lights Press Monday morning Reality Check: August 3 2020.
An Important Caveat
The world is a hot mess right now. Dancing Lights Press is a one-person operation. I’m also a United States citizen living as an expat in Finland and, this bears repeating. There’s a lot of potential for things to happen that are beyond my control. Keep that in mind as the read the rest of this newsletter, because everything is subject to change.
Coming Soon: Hippogryph Codex
I desperately want to release this system by the end of this week. It’s going to depend largely on whether I end up at the library printing off dozens of pages of paperwork for immigration. Seriously. I’m truly stoked to release the Hippogryph Codex, I’m pleased with how it’s turned out, but I still need a few days to complete the formatting and give it one more editing pass.
Coming Soon: Adventure Generator I & II
I realize that I’ve mentioned these a lot, but have never explained what they are. Since I plan on releasing them this month (see the caveat above), I need to rectify that with a blog post above. Basically they are some random tables to decide on a theme, an environment, a monster, and a plot. From there, you can add your own creativity and flesh those elements out into an adventure for any fantasy system or setting.
Coming Soon: Building Monsters
If all goes well, I’ll get to release this by the end of August as well. Otherwise, this will come out in September. The premise of this one is similar to Building Characters, but for adversarial creatures. Select a type, subtype, and environment (based on the D20 classifications), and flesh out the monster’s motivations, personality, and other elements. For any system or setting, it can easily be used to develop science fiction aliens, supervillains, or other foes in addition to fantasy monsters.
Latest Release: Domnio
Even though it was released with no build up and zero hype, I’m surprised that Domnio isn’t selling better. In theory it’s the type of things that ought to sell well, given the popularity of D&D hacks. On the other hand, it’s also the sort of thing that a lot of people expect you to give away for free, or to make pay-what-you-want. I’ve got reasons for not doing either of those things, and I might write an update about it if anyone cares.
The RPGaDay 2020 Challenge
Because I’m dedicating some time each day to work on improving this site, I’ve decided to participate in the 2020 RPGaDay challenge. That means a new post every single day during the month of August, where I will share positive experiences and insights about tabletop roleplaying. Subscribe to get updates by email, or following Dancing Lights Press on Twitter and Instagram.
Thank You for Your Support
There has to be a better way to say this, but I do appreciate all of the support you’ve given me. I know this is a tough time for everyone right now. Whether you’ve been reading my work for years or just recently picked up your first Dancing Lights Press PDF, thank you.
