The Big Zero Network
The protagonists get into wacky situations as they try to hide their outlandish secrets from their nosy neighbors.
Inspiration: Comedies from the early 1960s that had strong fantasy elements. The Addams Family, Batman ‘66, Bewitched, Get Smart, Gilligan’s Island, I Dream of Jeannie, The Monkees, The Munsters, My Favorite Martian, Santa Claus Conquers the Martians. Elements from dramas with fantastic overtones, and shows lacking a contemporary setting, also have an influence: Dark Shadows, The Green Hornet, Hogan’s Heroes, Lost in Space, The Man from U.N.C.L.E., The Prisoner, The Wild Wild West.
Genre: Campy Situation Comedy with fantasy elements.
Location: Sherwood Park, a fictional bedroom community in Southern California in the early 1960s.
Mood: Light Comedy
Theme: Perception versus Reality
Conflict: The keepers of the secret history of the world, versus those who would exploit that knowledge for their own personal gain.
History: There is a secret history of the world. Magic, monsters, and aliens from outer space. This is not a cover-up, because even the government isn’t fully aware that these things exist.
