Why I Wrote How to Gamemaster

A full Designer’s Thoughts episode is coming, but I just wanted to say a quick word about why I wrote How to Gamemaster and the Director’s Cut that’s dropping this Thursday. When I started out as a gamemaster, there was nothing like this. I didn’t have experienced gamers around to teach me how to prep and run a game. No one showed me how to manage the dynamics of a group. Few gamemaster guides for any system offer practical advice. This is the collected wisdom pulled from decades of experience running dozens of different tabletop roleplaying games. I’ve done everything from game store one-shots to years-long campaigns. I’m proud of this book and think it’s one of the best things I’ve ever put together. I hope you’ll check it out.

As with all titles getting the Director’s Cut treatment, it has been fully revised, re-edited, and re-formatted. If you’re already purchased the current edition, the digital files will be updated at DriveThruRPG so you can download them for free. If you haven’t bought this title yet, the price will go up when the new edition is released, so you save if you buy the current edition and wait for the free upgrade on Thursday.

I hope you’re doing well today.
