A Study in Storytelling [BUNDLE]

A collection of short fiction, plot hooks, and adventure seeds for you to remix and reimagine for your tabletop campaign.

A Study in Storytelling breaks down works of short fiction into plot hooks and story goals. These are usable in your tabletop roleplaying game. Using classic Sherlock Holmes tales by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, these elements can be used with any system, any setting, and any genre. Enjoy the stories, then recycle, re-imagine, and remix them for your own fantasy, science fiction, and horror campaigns.

This is a new format for deconstructing the stories. It is not connected to the old edition of the A Study in Storytelling series.

Each book contains the following:

  • Short stories by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, creator of Sherlock Holmes and author of many crime, science fiction, and fantasy stories.

  • Plot hooks and story goals drawn from each story. Use them as a creative springboard for your own adventures.

  • Notes on story structure, and the events that need to take place in the beginning, the middle and the end of your adventure.

  • Discussion on the types of player characters, adversaries, and supporting characters needed to play out each story.

  • Notes on key locations required for each story. Thoughts on alternatives that could also work.

  • An overview of the obstacles player characters have to face in order to achieve the story goal. How to adapt the story’s hindrances.

  • Notable objects that appear in the story, along with which are absolutely necessary to the plot, and which serve other purposes.
